What the peck?

The other day I noticed this downy woodpecker on the yucca flower stalk:

Hmmm -- what's he doing there?

Busy!

Oh, hello there! Can't really stop to chat right now, as I'm actually quite busy you see.

I know you're not very close by, watching me through that camera lens, but I'm going to keep an eye on you anyway -- nothing personal. You don't mind if I keep working, do you?

A few quick thoughts

I've got an early-morning blood donation appointment at the Red Cross this morning -- seemed like a good idea to make it for the morning, but as I groggily type I'm not so sure now.

Various Unrelated Observations

Often times when I'm taking photos in the garden I see something that doesn't lend itself to an entire post. Maybe it's something I do that doesn't require more than a photo or two, and a couple of sentences.

I've collected several of these recently, so today I'm going to just group them all together. Hope you find some of them to be interesting.

One mystery solved!

The other day when I transplanted some coreopsis seedlings, I saw that they all had heavy leaf damage:

Something has been eating the leaves -- every seedling in this pot is essentially leafless. I've been keeping an eye on this for a few days, but never saw any signs of the culprit.
