Wednesday Vignette: bamboo and fall

Fall is a great time for my garden, as the tree-shed leaves enhance the shorter bamboos that I grow.

I love the combination of the greens and browns, and I didn't have to do any work to get it!

Most of this beauty happens in the front garden, which is great planning lucky for me because it's about the only part of the garden I've been seeing lately.

Don't these photos make you want to grow these smaller bamboos too? The great thing about them is I don't have to rake up the leaves -- I actually rake them into the bamboos. They love it!

For more vignettes, visit Anna at Flutter and Hum. Lots of cool posts there, although I don't think you'll see many others about bamboo...

I look at the smaller bamboo and think of toads, how they'd like that environment.

Your bamboos look great year round but that yearly rhizome pruning...

So sorry for the tardy reply, Alan - I didn't see your comment until now. I love the shorter bamboos too. And I hear you loud and clear about only seeing the front yard these days. I guess it's good to be busy, but I miss my garden, even if by now it is a wet, soggy mess.
