Sweet Summer Love

'Sweet Summer Love' Clematis is starting to bloom in my garden now.

Climbing up one of the deck supports, its small purple blooms are visible from below as well as from above!

The blooms are a bit more reddish and not so violet as that first photo shows.

That one's not quite right either! It must be the light when seen from below...

...although this one is more accurate. Love this shot!

The stems are quite colorful, which makes the lack of flowers down low less of a problem:

But up on the deck, that's where the show really is:

This is supposed to be a fragrant hybrid, but I don't notice any scent. Fine with me though, as this is such a pretty bloomer!

Is anybody else growing this?

(I used a lens that I don't normally put on the camera. It's a bit soft for my liking...)

Love its habit, the way it climbs up delicately and makes a display in an unusual place!

The soft look is kind of nice and romantic for this little charmer.

Yes, I'm growing it. Third year and I'm finally getting blooms. I do notice a scent too.

I just planted one this spring! It's still a tiny little thing. We had a Sweet Autumn Clematis when we rented and were hoping for a purple version of that as it smelled amazing- but it was also HUGE so maybe it takes a few years for the fragrance to become noticeable.
