Finally, some color!

You'd have a difficult time looking at the front of my house and convincing me that it's not colorful, at least during the growing season.

It depends where you look though, and this weekend I finally fixed a long overdue problem.

You see, our front door has been white for as long as I've lived here.

(Note that the greenish tint is reflected from the greenery in the front garden)

color-corrected to remove green tint

This is a bit surprising, as most of my neighbors have colorful front doors.

My garden creativity has not carried over to the house -- at least not until now.

We actually had a very hard time choosing a color, but the finalists were a deep orange, a very dark red (more like maroon), and this blue color which Behr calls "Dragonfly":

What a difference it has made!

Here it is in early evening under different lighting conditions, with less reflected green:

I suspect that we would have been happy with any of our final three choices, but this is quite nice without being too crazy. I love it!

What do you think?

And since I'm here, how about a glance at the walkway garden, what we see when walking out the front door:

Door? What door?

(Coincidentally, our neighbor repainted their front door very close to this same color recently too, after we had purchased the paint. We had surveyed the other colors in order to have a unique color in the near neighborhood. Ah well.)

I like the blue Dragonfly color. It embraces the shadows and the sunlight colors the best, imo.

I choose all my paints (and my nail polish for that matter) based on the name. So Dragonfly is perfect!

Great color and a nice change. I agree that you'd probably be happy with any of the colors you were contemplating but this is, as you said "quite nice without being too crazy." Great color name and beautiful result! Your walkway garden is gorgeous!

I think the color compliments the stone quite nicely. Great choice!

Nice work! I am all for bright, colorful doorways.

I'm glad everybody likes it -- I wasn't looking forward to repainting. ;)

Thanks!
