art deer

A couple of weeks ago before the warm spell I noticed a few deer in the yard one morning. (It's important to realize that they're out there every day, but I don't always look at the right times.) They were hanging around the frozen pond, perhaps hoping to find a drink.

I took some photos that I wasn't too happy with, partially because of low lighting, partially because they were taken through a dirty window, and partially because I really wanted one of them to walk out onto the ice and do a little Bambi-style slipping and sliding.

***

Instead of hilarious slipping I had to be satisfied with boring grazing. I also went a bit artsy with the images, since they were a bit blah out of camera.

Those legs would have looked so good out on the ice!

There were three deer out there, but one stayed behind the shrubbery so I never got a clear shot.

This might have been that elusive third animal, but I'm not sure:

The one in the foreground of the pond photo ventured closer to the house -- I thought it might actually come up onto the driveway:

It didn't.

The one in the background of the pond photo decided to move farther away from the house:

and then started eating something from the compost pile:

Blech.

Although I see them quite often and they do eat some of the plants that I wish they'd leave alone, for the most part I always get excited seeing these animals in the yard.

I just wish I could see them on the frozen pond!

Ugh. The deer. Destroyers of landscapes! Eaters of shrubbery! Stompers of perennials! We have a love/hate relationship... they love my garden, I hate their guts!

Just kidding... sort of!

Wonderful. I hope to see some at my new place.

Such beautiful creatures, I don't think I'd feel the same way, if they ate my plants though. Love your photos.

Lovely photos Alan. I do like deer.

Do you have trouble with them though? Over here they take great satisfaction in nibbling away at tree bark.

I wouldn't say that the deer are "trouble" here. Yes they eat some plants sometimes, and there are things I cannot grow because of this, but for the most part we get along. :)

I am very thankful that we don't have deer. The rabbits are bad enough. Nice pictures, though.
