Bamboo dig rained out

As I mentioned at the end of yesterday's post, this morning I'd be going to Mike's to help him dig and pot some more bamboo. It was a cloudy morning so I checked the weather websites and they said "hot and humid with thunderstorms mainly after 1 PM". Hmmm. A look at the radar showed a line of heavy storms moving toward us, but according to the forecast it wouldn't be getting here for several hours. Seemed wrong but I believed it, loaded up the truck, and started driving.

A few minutes later I noticed the angry sky.

As I've said before, we can only see the sky straight up and to the east/southeast from our house and yard, and this storm was coming from the north/northwest. Once I got on the road, I could actually see it.

These were beautiful, dramatic clouds, so I pulled over and snapped a couple of pics, and took the rest from my car (only the forward-looking photo on the highway was taken while moving).

I kept driving, hoping that it would just be a quick, heavy downpour, and we'd be able to dig after it passed.

After driving in and out of the storm on the way to Mike's, it was pouring rain when I pulled up to his house, so I just decided to wait it out.

After several minutes the heavy rain passed but the light rain showed no signs of stopping, so I called Mike (from the street in front of his house) and we decided to postpone the dig until another day. When there was a break in the rain I unloaded a few bags of potting mix that I had brought for him so the trip wouldn't be a complete waste and drove back home. I was somewhat disappointed, but excited about the cool photos I knew I had gotten.

Incidentally, I had forgotten that I left a new, unopened bag of Milorganite outside on the driveway, and overnight the raccoons (or a single raccoon) discovered it.

I'm not sure if they actually eat the stuff or just like the smell of it, but they had a party last night! I hope they got their fill and if they did eat it, the resulting stomach ache will be a lesson learned and they'll stay out of my pots!
