More of the back garden

A couple of days ago I showed you the garden around the patio area, how it's been growing like crazy this summer with very little attention from me. I'll show you more of the back yard now, focusing on the area to the south of the patio.

The house and deck are to the left, and this wall of foliage hides the pergola and patio. There's a lot going on here, and this may not be the best view of it.

So here's another angle:

Here's the first view, but more cropped so more focused, easier on the brain:

And even another, as I circle toward the back (around the bananas) and turn toward the house:

I would estimate that at most 75% of these plants were intentionally placed by me this year.

The two smaller castor bean plants were NOT planted by me, but they break up the green so I left them.

"Smaller" is relative, as these are 7' (2.1m) tall, but tiny compared to the ones next to the deck.

The maypop -- this is the third spot in which I let it grow -- has completely obscured the trellis from view...

...but I'm not complaining! Dozens of these wonderful blooms every day.

(I pull maypop vines out all summer long. This plant loves to spread from its roots.)

Gosh! It's amazing what can happen in a few months time, isn't it? Good thing winter tames the growth or you'd lose your house all together!

I would really like to see a winter picture side by side with late summer. The amount of growth is remarkable. Note to self: try castor bean plant from seed.

Peter: thanks! Maybe someday you'll see it in person?

Lisa: I've often thought what I'd do if I lived in a year-round growing season. I think I'd manage. :)

Chavliness: I'll see if I can dig one up, but to be honest I don't take shots from that angle in winter because there's nothing to look at. ;)
