Purple!

My time is very limited this week due to work, so I'm keeping things simple. Photographic. Textural. Colorful.
Today's post is a color. Guess which color it is?
This color is brought to you by one of my favorite annual vines, the hyacinth bean vine. Beautiful, somewhat fragrant, hummingbirds love it, and some bees and butterflies do too. It's a real star in my late-season garden every year.
For a touch of variety, how about some Maypop, Passiflora incarnata?
I'm so pleased with the two specimens of this plant I have this year. One was planted in the ground and is climbing up my pergola, and the other is in a container at the bottom of the deck stairs. Both of them are still flowering -- I didn't expect them to flower all summer long, but I'm so glad they are!
I've been looking at these blooms for months, and I'm still boggled by their complexity. Amazing!
They're certainly purple too.

I've got to get a passionflower vine! I photographed one at the house we rented in Oregon last month, and the flower truly is as stunning as your photos show.
The maypop is gorgeous! Your blog is the first place I've ever seen them and I've got to have one! My gardening motto - "I'll get it next year!"
Since I have several fruits on each vine right now, I'm going to have plenty of seeds whenever they ripen. These two were grown from seed last summer (so this is their second year). I don't know if they flower their first year, but I'd gladly send you some seeds once they're ready (if you live in the US and email me with your address -- check my "about" page).
