New plants!

Of course I've been acquiring new plants recently, why wouldn't I? Just because it's the hottest part of summer and I have literally dozens of plants still in their nursery pots on my driveway, doesn't mean that I shouldn't continue to feed my obsession, right?


So I thought I'd take a look at some of the newest flora that I've added. A few of these I may have covered briefly in other posts, but most of this should be new (here). Starting with 'Chocolate Chip' Ajuga above. It's been around for a few years but I've only this year decided that the "wild" Ajuga growing in my garden isn't enough, and how could I resist those cute little leaves?

Walkway plants, south side

Yesterday I showed you most of the plants I put on the north side of the new front walkway.


Today guess which side we're going to look at? The north again, because I don't think you were paying attention. No, of course it's the south side!

Walkway plants, north side

My recent walkway project ended for this year once I got all of the perennials planted. It's time to show you what plants I put here to give the area not only instant impact, but to ensure that it becomes a real thing of beauty and interest in future years.


Today I'll focus on the north side of the walkway, which is on your left as you walk up to the house.

Bugleweed, essential in my lawn

In yesterday's post about the woodchuck, you can see a nice drift of purple flowers in the background in many of the images.


That's the bugleweed (Ajuga reptans) that my neighbor inherited when he moved in, and has spread in large swaths through his lawn and to a smaller extent mine.
