I've had some surprises this summer -- good ones for the most part so far -- and today I'll show you the second of them. (Wait, what about the first? Well, I'm numbering them in the order I discovered them, not in the order in which I'm sharing.)
A couple of weeks ago my one remaining rose (Zephirine Drouhin) was just about perfect.
I thought I'd show you some updated photos of the rose support now that the plant has leafed out and blooming.
A few years back -- four I think -- I built a copper trellis and planted a climbing rose outside my kitchen window. It was labeled as 'Fourth of July' rose, which should have had red blooms streaked with white.
The other day I posted lots of photos of individual blooms -- up-close is my favorite way of looking at most flowers.
Guess what today's post is about? I picked up a bargain rose this weekend, and decided that the bed next to my driveway was the right home for it.
I noticed that the two 'Home Run' roses on the South side of the house are really growing actively, and it's time to chop them back a little (or a lot). Here's the first one:
After a Friday that was sunny and warm (almost 70ºF), it really was not good weather Saturday. Cloudy, cold, windy, and sprinkling rain every once in a while -- not the kind of day that I want to spend in the garden. But work was getting frustrating, and there's a lot left to do out there, so I decided to spend a couple more hours on cleanup. I noticed that the butterfly bushes were starting to leaf out, and some of the perennials are really starting to emerge, so I'll start with those.
