Lavender: how did they do?

I've already looked at the bamboos and cactus to see how they fared after the tough winter, and today it's time to look at another group of plants that I have a small collection of: lavender.

It seems that I lose at least one lavender every winter regardless of its severity, as the combination of cold wetness and heavy soil is usually too much for at least one of the plants. This year it's about the same... but let's take a closer look.

It's been a while since I talked about my lavender plants, and this is a good year for lavender in my garden!

Probably because of the mild winter, each of my seven lavenders are looking really good. Some of these make it through any winter because of the drainage they have, while others in different spots suffer some damage -- not this year though.

Although there is plenty of green in my garden this winter -- mainly due to bamboo but also thanks to the mild weather -- I noticed the other day that there is another color that is quite prevalent as well.

No, it's not brown (although there is plenty of that around). It's gray, or silver!

Yesterday when I posted about various blooms in the garden right now, how many times did I say "deer like to eat this one" or "deer pruned this one for me"? Too many times. I do grow a few plants that the deer won't touch, and one of them is lavender.
