Stinky but Pretty

The Amorphophallus konjac are blooming, which means I say "wonder what died?" every time I walk around near the deck.

The blooms are stinky, like death, decaying meat. Pretty though.

Just photos today of the five blooms I have going at once...

The green dots you see in some of the photos are aphids. Somehow these plants got infested with them while still growing in my garage, and I have not been able to get rid of them. They're not doing any harm from what I can see.

The foliage from a smaller corm:

Probably a couple more years before that one flowers.

Beautiful stuff, especially if you're experiencing it digitally. In person, not so much fun.

These flower every year once they mature right? It looks like the one I have from you may just keep going from flowering in the spring to collecting energy in the summer. I still have 1 large titanum that I'll let continue to upsize and hopefully get a flower off that.

This is when I'm glad there is no 'smell-o-net'! That is a very cool plant though!

Steve: mine that bloomed last year did not produce foliage afterward. Hoping they don't all do that again!

They are lovely to look at. So, you're saying that these won't be appearing in a vase on your dining room table?
