But don't be discouraged. Chances are you'll have much better results the next time.

Echium wildpretii: I think your plants didn't get enough water and/or light. I'd keep them on the dry side but still give them a drink now and then. They're full-sun plants so I imagine they need quite a bit of light if kept indoors. Do you need more seeds? I can send you some.

Yucca rostrata: I think it got too much moisture, esp. in combination with the cold. (I water my potted specimens liberally in the summer but keep them quite dry in the winter.)

Opuntia: I think the first one is a gone. That dark stuff at the base looks like rot. If you act quickly you might be able to safe the pad; disinfect a sharp knife and then cut it above the rotten base. Put it in a dry spot for a few weeks to callus over, then place in dry succulent mix until it forms roots.Gerhard Bock (Succulents and More)https://www.blogger.com/profile/17583583634141549759noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7306285038402649171.post-78074995714061780112013-04-04T10:58:57.624-05:002013-04-04T10:58:57.624-05:00So sad! Some cold hardy yuccas don't take any damage with zone 6 winters. On the contrary, I'm thinking my Blenheim apricot tree may not make it through another year of severe drought, despite supplemental watering. Problems are opposite, but both troublesome to plants we love.
sandy lawrencenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7306285038402649171.post-58203131682399020582013-04-02T10:41:37.917-05:002013-04-02T10:41:37.917-05:00Oh Alan this is such a sad post!!! I've had them look pretty horrid but still be alive and start kicking out new leaves once it warms up.danger gardenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09227500551609537140noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7306285038402649171.post-58847519337476929962013-04-02T10:39:26.534-05:002013-04-02T10:39:26.534-05:00What a gruesome post! What a gruesome post!Lucy Corrander Now in Halifax!https://www.blogger.com/profile/14685242329129914772noreply@blogger.com
